WHAT IS RHEUMATOLOGY?
Rheumatology is the medical specialty dedicated to healing and prevention of the many types of arthritis and related illnesses of the joints, muscles and bones. Rheumatic diseases and arthritis can afflict patients of all ages but are very common with seniors. Rheumatologists detect the underlying cause of chronic or severe back pain, neck pain, muscle pain or painful joints. Their expertise assists patients dealing with osteoarthritis, gout, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, and osteoporosis, among other diseases.

MIMA’s rheumatologists are board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. David Spalding, M.D. is a recipient of the Arthritis Foundation Investigator Award and has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” since 1999. Sukanya Pachaidee, M.D. has been with MIMA since August 2004 and accepts new patients. Elena Barnes, M.D. has been with MIMA since March 2007.
