Dr. Shapiro has been practicing emergency medicine since completion of his residency training at UMASS in 1990. Over this period of time he has had extensive experience caring for emergency patients in several high-volume emergency departments. He also worked for over 10 years as a flight physician on-board emergency medical helicopters in Massachusetts and New York. He has thousands of hours of experience evaluating and treating medical, surgical and pediatric emergencies of all kinds.
Since coming to Melbourne he has practiced at several local hospital emergency departments, most recently at the new Viera Hospital. He also has specialized training and experience in hyperbaric medicine (the use of high atmospheric pressure chambers for the treatment of diving injuries and wound healing). He serves as the Medical Director for the Health-First Training Center, which provides educational programs for physicians, nurses and paramedics.
