MIMA PROVIDES PREMIER CARE AND SERVICES TO DIABETES PATIENTS

MIMA Diabetes Self Management Education Program provides the highest level of education and care to people struggling with diabetes in Brevard County. The program educates people on diabetic care, and more importantly the steps needed to try to prevent or slow the effects of the disease.

Program Medical Direction: Dr. Ruben Pipek, Board Certified Endocrinologist
Program Coordinator: Noreen Williams, Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management

MIMA is passionate about diabetes care and education, and we feel there is a tremendous need to offer a comprehensive program to our community. The cutting edge research and educational information that we provide could completely change the way a person is able to manage their disease.

As testimony to the quality of care provided at MIMA, more than half of the physicians from the state of Florida – 24 out of 40 – recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance Diabetic Physician Recognition Program were from MIMA.

MIMA EDUCATION PROGRAM

MIMA’s education program staff includes a registered dietitian and two registered nurses, all certified diabetes educators, who work closely with the MIMA endocrinologists and physicians.

MIMA's program includes:

  • A series of three classes; each 3-hours long and held weekly for three consecutive weeks. Morning and afternoon class times are offered. In addition, the class is offered one Saturday each month from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • An individual consultation with one of the diabetes educators
  • Individual Medical Nutrition Therapy with the registered dietitian after the completion of the classes. These sessions allow one-on-one guidance for your specific needs with respect to other health related concerns, schedules, and food preferences.
  • Program graduates of the comprehensive program can attend two, 1-hour follow up sessions every year. These sessions are geared to provide updates on diabetes management and to examine progress toward meeting treatment goals or to establish new goals or changes in treatment plan as needed.

Classes are held at the MIMA offices at 200 Sheridan Road, Melbourne. For more information, please contact 321-725-4500 x 303 to discuss details of the program and eligibility.
